Difficulty letting go is never a sign of weakness. Between hello and goodbye, there are moments shared by two people who at that time wanted to be there. We can’t predict the future but we control how we move towards it. Along that path, as the slope moves the battle upward and endurance begins to wane, we see a distant finish line too far for both of us to meet. It is a race both must complete in order to be the victor. Our pasts are filled with partners who could not make it-we ourselves are the partner who couldn’t make it. We leave them there. Life forces us lift up our memories instead.
Difficulty letting go is the greatest indication that you loved. You loved too deeply to resurface quickly. Letting go requires emotional and mental endurance. To live a life single after a relationship takes courage. To live with questions unanswered or cry over someone who should be under you catching the tear drop is torture. In time, you survive and the scars represent a strength some of us never thought we possessed. You move forward because the race was never over. When you paused, stumbled or turned around, whether you were injured, wept and grieved-it\was still in play. We all have a finish line and a person we are meant to cross it with, but we have to let go of the fallen in order to grab hands with our future.
